There is one thing the tools discussed in the previous chapter cannot do: turn material stored in a family history database into Web pages to produce an on-line tree. For this you are going to need to take your family tree package as the starting point and choose one of three options:

  • If you use genealogy software which has facilities for outputting Web pages, then you will be able create the pages directly from the program.

  • No matter what genealogy software you are using, it should be able to save the data in GEDCOM format, and you will be able to use a conversion utility to turn the GEDCOM file into a set of Web pages.

  • Your genealogy program may be able to save reports in some other file format which you can either convert to HTML or put on-line directly.
  • This chapter will look at these options in turn.
