The Layout

The main layout facilities provided by HTML are:

  • Paragraphs
  • Six levels of heading
  • Horizontal rules to divide up the page
  • Numbered and bulleted lists
  • Bold, italic, and other character formatting features
  • Font size changes
  • Left, right and centre justification
  • Tables
  • A number of text and image alignment options.

Further control of presentation can be achieved by the use of style sheets. Note that some features found in word-processed documents are not available in HTML - tabs, columns, footnotes, and page breaks, for example - though you may be able to simulate their appearance.
