Getting Web SoftwareAll shareware or freeware Web software can be downloaded from the Web. With commercial packages, you will often find a demo on the company's Web site. You will frequently find Web authoring software on cover CDs of computer magazines (Internet Magazine's cover CDs are particularly useful) and accompanying books on Web authoring. CD-ROMs are useful because of the very substantial download times required for some of the fuller packages. Windows and Mac users looking for software should look at the lists provided on the TUCOWS Web site (http://tucows.cableinet.net/)[52], which has the software available for downloading from a UK server. TUCOWS is also useful because it rates packages and in some cases offers reviews. Other reviews will be found on the Web pages of computer magazines - a good starting point is PC Magazine's set of comparative reviews at http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/features/htmlauthor/_open.htm. Otherwise the best general starting point for any Web software is on Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com/). All material relating to the Web and Web authoring is available from the page http://www.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/ |
